AR coatings have several advantages and can positively impact one’s vision. These anti-glare coatings allow more light transmission through the lens and cuts those annoying reflections.
Are Antireflective Coatings Important?
- Aesthetics – no reflections at an audience – Think about a public speaker who wears glasses and as they move if they do not have an anti-reflective coating you are constantly seeing glints and light reflections off their glasses making looking at them in the eye nearly impossible.
- Reduced eye strain from computer work – Studies show that these coating cut down glare from computer screens with leads to reduced eye stain. In todays world most of us spend a considerable amount of time at a computer looking at that glowing blue screen and by the end of the day our eyes are sore and tired.
- Reduced glare from headlights at night – AR coated lenses also help at night while driving by reducing the glare of oncoming headlights and the glare caused by headlights behind us reflecting off the back of our glasses into our eyes. The reflection for the lights behind us may in fact be more of a hindrance than that caused from oncoming headlights.
- Scratch and UV has been added to many of todays AR coatings giving it extra value – Most of the AR coatings today have added scratch protection and uv protection. This usually has an additional warranty and is beneficial for cataract patients and those with a family history of macular degeneration.
